REQUIREMENTS
The requirements in the Master of Education "Teaching Music" presuppose an above-average level of professional field-related, individual and social competences. Applicants should have a natural authority and demonstrate the ability to teach music in the school environment.
The qualifying examination consists of a thirty-minute colloquium with the following parts:
- a) An interdisciplinary presentation with artistic, scientific and pedagogical elements
- b) Practical school piano performance
- c) An interview in which applicants must demonstrate above-average artistic, scientific and pedagogical competences as well as verbalisation and reflection skills with regard to music-didactic questions
Explanations
- to a) The artistic contribution of the presentation can be made on the main instrument, secondary instrument or in singing. Furthermore, it is possible to integrate contributions from the "Practical School Instrumental Play" (piano, guitar, percussion, etc.) into this part of the examination
- to b) For the examination part "Practical Piano Playing", applicants have to prepare two songs from different styles. In the performance, pianistic and vocal performances are to be combined. Another element of the examination is sight-reading. Three options can be chosen here: Standard, pop song or song, each with chord symbols
- to c) The interview includes questions on the examination parts a) and b) as well as on current topics in music education
Example of an interdisciplinary presentation Presentation of a short instrumental piece, the music-historical background of which is explained didactically to the examination board.
