Composition
The degree programme is designed for candidate students who wish to further develop their creative process and are already able to present their own compositional works. Students will have fundamental knowledge of music theory and basic piano skills, which they are able to demonstrate in an audition.

Composing is not oriented towards a specific teaching or a fixed professional profile, but rather is based on the necessity to express oneself personally through the creation of music.Graduates should be able to expound their works in discourse and incorporate them within social dialogue.

Individual artistic training forms the focus of the main modules. Following completion of the musical practice, musicology/music theory and tuition modules, as of the fifth semester students select a profile. The profiles allow for individual focus to be centred on musical practice or musicology.

Project-related work with external lecturers and instrumental ensembles is also intended to expose students to fields that cannot be covered by MHL’s own teaching staff.

Students develop cross-study tuition concepts in interdisciplinary music education projects, within the scope of which different social groups can be addressed.

The MHL electronic studio offers students with a corresponding interest the opportunity to major in this area through individual option.
