Music Theory / Ear Training
The degree programme is designed for candidate students passionately dedicated to the theoretical reach of music and who wish to further develop and promote such in the community. Students should possess prior theoretical and practical knowledge and be able to demonstrate this in an audition.

In addition to the explicit academic and theoretical structure, the MHL degree programme in music theory/ear training also focuses on practical exercise. Amongst other things, this is particularly apparent in the profile options 'Ensemble direction', 'Choral conducting' and 'Popular music'. These profiles allow for the targeted application and consolidation of the theoretical knowledge and practical musical ability acquired in the core curriculum.

Within the projects, students encounter interdisciplinary exchange with students of other fields of study. The results are collectively presented to the public.

Graduates are qualified to undertake Master degree programmes in music theory. They are able to explain technical problems in academic works and expound such to a specialist audience in presentations. Capable of imparting specialist knowledge for specific target groups on various levels, they are also able to create multivoice compositions in different historical and contemporary styles. The music education and didactic elements within the core curriculum qualify graduates to perform their own group teaching in music theory and ear training.

Subject to sufficient pianist aptitude (substantiated by module exam), the 'Instrumental/Vocal pedagogy' profile may be selected to acquire an additional qualification as a piano teacher.
